Samuel G. Dawson on Capital Punishment 07/26/06

Added 03/12/07 - > Sam's Chapter on Dealing With Doctrinal Differences. From his book Fellowship with God and His People Differences exist between contentiousness (which is clearly condemned) and contending for the faith. Many times brethren divide from each other over doctrinal points without serious study taking place before the division. This chapter gives scriptural procedures for dealing with brethren with whom we differ. Unfortunately, our record has not been good at conducting ourselves properly in the midst of differences.

Added 07/26/06 -> Sam's new book: How to Study the Bible A Practical Guide to Independent Bible Study.  Read about this 446-page book, including a detailed table of contents, at http://gospelthemes.com/htsbk.htm. If you order now, you have time to review it for consideration for your fall classes. Also Sam's other New book: The Teaching of Jesus can be found at http://gospelthemes.com/htsbk.htm.

Booklets by Patsy Rae Dawson and short reviews:
Male and Female: God's Genius! The feminists who flocked to the laboratories in the early 1970s to prove that no real differences exist between men and women. In spite of their best efforts, a tremendous amount of evidence surfaced to prove God's genius in designing the male's and the female's bodies and minds and the way they work together. (Composed of excerpts from two chapters in Marriage: A Taste of Heaven, Vol. I: God's People Appreciate Marriage. 32 pages, ISBN 0-938855-47-6)

Why God's People Make the Best Lovers God has always recognized the woman as the man's sexual equal in both desire and ability to enjoy pleasure. Surveys prove that practicing God's rules for lovemaking liberates both the man and the woman for total rapture in the arms of the mate. God's law of compatibility answers the question of how frequent should lovemaking be. Eight Biblical reasons for lovemaking are given with procreation being the least important. (Composed of excerpts from Marriage: A Taste of Heaven, Vol. II: God's People Make the Best Lovers. 32 pages, ISBN 0-938855-45-X)

What They Don't Tell You About Safe Sex Since public schools leave God out of sex education, this booklet approaches the subject from the viewpoint of a person who just wants to have fun without consideration of God's laws. Using actual sex-education materials, it covers French kissing, petting, masturbation, love making with persons of the same sex, having intercourse, having a variety of sexual partners, living together, and getting married. Documented medical and psychological evidence shows that God can withstand the test of modern science. A brief conclusion proves beyond all doubt that the promiscuous person does indeed "sin against his own body" (I Cor. 6:18). The booklet is written to teenagers, young adults, parents, and grandparents who want to deal with this subject intelligently. The material has been well received by teenagers.

This booklet resulted from a teenage boy asking for the documentation used in the Song of Solomon class on sex education in the schools. He was assigned a high school English report on how to argue effectively and chose this subject. The teacher was so impressed by his report that she asked where he learned these things. When he told her, she asked to listen to the cassette album. By examining your own free copy and ordering extra copies for people you influence, you can help stem the decline of morals in this country. (Printed version of one class in the cassette album The Song of Solomon: God's Sex Education for Teenagers, Their Parents, and Grandparents. 48 pages, ISBN 0-938855-48-4)

Adultery and Sexual Addiction  A Plan for Healing the Soul and the Marriage. When people hear the expression "sexual addiction," many assume it is rare or it doesn't have anything to do with them. Yet the increasing frequency of couples requesting help with both adultery and sexual addiction provides a strong indication that sexual sin will be the number-one marriage problem facing twenty-first-century Christians, both in their own lives and in the lives of people theachers, elders, and Christians.

Finally, this booklet gives a specific plan for healing the souls and marriages of adulterers and sexual addicts and their families. While mankind's methods of dealing with these devastating sins grind slowly with mixed results, God's formula liberates his followers to be whole and to enjoy all of the great marital blessings God reserves for his people.

A Profile of Patsy Rae Dawson:

An award-winning author, Patsy Rae Dawson has taught marriage classes and worked with both men and women since 1970. Her extensive biblical and secular research for the Marriage: A Taste of Heaven series makes it the most comprehensive material available. Vol. I: God's People Appreciate Marriage was revised and expanded in 1995. The most common remark she hears from readers is, "I'm falling in love all over again!" Vol. II: God's People Make the Best Lovers was revised and expanded in 1996 and deals with the increasing problem of sexual addiction among Christians. Churches all across the country and in many foreign countries use Patsy Rae Dawson's popular books in marriage classes for both men and women.

When her daughter was a teenager, Patsy taught a series of classes titled The Song of Solomon: God's Sex Education for teenagers and young adults, their parents, and grandparents. This popular series is now available as a cassette album. The teenagers and their grandparents liked the class on sex education in the schools so well that Patsy wrote a booklet What They don't Tell You About Safe Sex to document the references for the students.

After publishing Vol. II: God's People Make the Best Lovers, Patsy began receiving requests for help with severe problems that didn't respond to the usual classes on marriage. Through surveys and looking back on her experience as a teacher, she found that every time a marriage doesn't respond, some type of sin is being covered up in the home. Her resulting study and going through training at two women's shelters led to publishing a cassette album of classes titled Challenges in Marriage. The album shows how when sin is covered up in the home, it inhibits love and eventually destroys the marriage. It gives procedures for overcoming sin. Tapes of her classes are widely circulated.

Patsy and her husband Sam have been married since 1964. They worked with congregations in Washington, Texas, and California for over twenty-two years. They have a daughter and a son. She was raised in the Texas panhandle where her parents Ray and Ocie Lue Snodgrass still farm. Patsy and her family live in Washington state in the United States where she continues to write and teach.

Booklets by Samuel G. Dawson
Formality vs. Humanity: When God Despises Scriptural Worship: While God commands formal worship, He considers something else much more important. God hates the worship of people who mistreat their fellowman and would like to smear their religious service in their faces as refuse. Mistreatment of others makes God despise the worship of Christians claiming to follow the Biblical pattern and He wishes they would just permanently lock the doors to their buildings. This is one of the most important concepts of Christianity that is sadly missing in the lives of many who claim to be Christians. (Composed of excerpts from the cassette album The Teaching of Jesus. 21 pages, ISBN 0-938855-82-4)

Jesus' Teaching on Hell:  "Don't you know that hell is just something the Catholic Church invented to scare people into obedience?" When Sam Dawson heard these words on a live call-in radio program years ago, he was righteously indignant at the caller's haphazard use of Scripture. However, after years of study, he discovered that none of our traditional concepts of hell can be found in the teaching of Jesus Christ! We get indignant at the mention of purgatory—we know that is not in the Bible. Yet our popular concepts of hell come from the same place that purgatory did—Roman Catholicism! This booklet explores the use of the word hell to see if our concepts come from the Bible. This study will cause you to re-examine current teaching on hell and urge you to further study on what happens to the wicked after death. (28 pages, ISBN 0-938855-81-6)

II Peter 3: Destruction of Jerusalem or Destruction of the Universe?:  A verse-by-verse study of II Peter 3 shows how our ignorance of the Old Testament often causes us to jump to false conclusions about this important chapter. While many people believe this chapter deals with the destruction of the universe, the author proves that it prophesies about the destruction of Jerusalem. (15 pages, ISBN 0-938855-83-2)

Women and Men in a Local Church: What is the role of women in local churches? Are all women to be in subjection to all men? May women attend congregational meetings? May women ask questions in a Bible class? What do subjection, quietness, and silence mean? What if men won't study these questions? This booklet deals with the issues

"The Way of Christ Without Denominationalism" by Samuel G. Dawson. The non-denominational way of Christ is superior to anything man has devised, and countless thousands of people are after it, they just don't know it's possible. People now have less denominational allegiance than ever before in our lifetime. You've surely noticed many new church buildings being built with no denominational name given. Those of us striving to be just non-denominational Christians should above all people be able to take advantage of this opportunity to teach others.

How to be just a New Testament Christian was never more clearly explained than in this excellent booklet for personal evangelism. This booklet is designed to give to our non-Christian friends to teach them the harm of denominationalism, how to be in fellowship with God, and how to be in fellowship with other Christians.

Dealing With Doctrinal Differences: From Fellowship with God and His People

What Church Should Be Constitutionally Separated from the State? by Samuel G. Dawson. The distinction between a local church, the universal church, and denominations is at the heart of the controversy over the separation of church and state, which in our time has come to be the separation of religion and state, or even the separation of morality and state. This article discusses the separation of church and state with focus on "church," showing that no legitimate church is entangled with the state.

"Matthew 24-25" by Samuel G. Dawson. Matthew 24-25 is one of the most difficult, perplexing, abused, and misapplied passages in the Bible. It suffers the most speculative interpretations and many false doctrines about a final return of Christ rest upon it. For example, the Worldwide Church of God and Jehovah's Witnesses use Matthew 24-25 to substantiate their teachings. Misuse of it is also the basis for Hal Lindsay's popular Late Great Planet Earth.

A Profile of Samuel G. Dawson:

A physics and mathematics graduate from Texas Tech, Samuel G. Dawson worked in the aerospace industry before deciding to preach the gospel of Christ. In twenty-two years of public teaching, he did extensive live call-in radio work daily for eight years and participated in a number of religious debates. Sam's scientific background has given him a logical and thorough approach to the scriptures and a reputation for making Bible students re-think teaching they've taken for granted.

Over one hundred thousand cassettes of his classes and sermons have been distributed across the nation. His most popular ones are now available in cassette albums: Marriage, Divorce, & Remarriage demonstrates how Moses, Jesus, and Paul all taught the same thing about this controversial subject. It deals frankly with issues confronting many Christians today and the people they are trying to teach. The Teaching of Jesus shows how many people take Jesus' teaching out of the context of the people He preached to and misapply it to our day. How to Study the Bible teaches dedicated Bible students how to study from choosing a dependable translation to rules for interpretation to solving difficulties in the Bible.

Sam drew on years of experience working with local congregations to write Fellowship: With God and His People (The Way of Christ Without Denominationalism) and Denominational Doctrines: Explained, Examined, Exposed. He co-authored a Handbook of Religious Quotations and has written numerous tracts.

Sam has worked mostly in the western part of the United States and presently lives in Washington with his wife Patsy, author of the Marriage: A Taste of Heaven series and their son.

Chapter 4 Evidence From Jesus' Birth: by Rod MacArthur Internal evidences from Jesus' birth are developed through interrogation of those associated with his birth. These events support Jesus' claim to represent God and answer man's needs. A study of these Bible evidences leads to increased confidence in Jesus as the son of God and man's savior.

Statistics generated by the page counters at the Gospel Themes Press Web site at http://gospelthemes.com. During the past year we monitored the statistics from the hit counters to determine what Bible subjects people are most interested in. The overwhelming result is that people who visited our Web site were much more interested in love issues as presented from the Bible than they were in being doctrinally correct. It also appears that many of them are unsuccessful and very unhappy in their love lives as shown by the high statistics on the pages for adultery and sexual addiction and marriage, divorce, and remarriage.

The following statistics are taken from people who found our Web site primarily from search engines rather than from a mailing that we did. They show the percentage of visitors who went to each page seeking information. The first statistic is for the month of July. Then notice the dramatic jump for the month of November. We have observed from the very first year of our teaching labors that lots of people take personal inventory at the beginning of a new year. With this new year also being the beginning of a new millennium, it looks like people are doing more personal reflection than ever.

July November Bible Quiz on Sexual Love - See God's Approval of Lovemaking! - 25% 36%
Adultery & Sexual Addiction: - A Plan for Healing the Soul and the Marriage - 18% 83%
Song of Solomon cassette album God's Sex Education for Teenagers, Their Parents, and Grandparents - 18% 41%
Why God's People Make the Best Lovers - 15% 54%
Marriage: Divorce, & Remarriage cassette album The Uniform Teaching of Moses, Jesus & Paul -
10% 19%
What They Don't Tell You About Safe Sex - 6% 29%
Jesus' Teaching on Hell - 2% 20%

While the doctrinal issues were hit very lightly during July (all of them under 5%), the booklet on hell rose to 20% as the end of the year rapidly approaches. That corresponds with people's interest in inner reflection during this time of the year. The rest of our pages deal mainly with doctrinal issues and they have the lowest percentage of hits for both months.

What this means is that if you are interested in getting people's attention and teaching them, an effective approach would be exposing them to God's love for his people in the sexual realm. Many people still think that many Christians view sex as a necessary evil and are turned off of becoming a Christian by these false views of God's teaching about lovemaking. Our free online booklets and love quiz are excellent tools for you to use in your evangelism efforts. We encourage you to make as many copies of them as you like and use them freely.

We hope that you will use the coming new year as a personal opportunity for inner reflection and also take advantage of the opportunities to share God's wonderful teachings of married love with those you want to influence. We have always found that after the first of the year is an excellent time to begin classes on marriage because of the personal reflection people seem to do at this time. Our books in the Marriage: A Taste of Heaven series, Vol. I: God's People Appreciate Marriage and Vol. II: God's People Make the Best Lovers are our best sellers and are designed for class use for both men and women.
